Opera Queensland proudly presents this new production of The Magic Flute from director Christine Douglas and young Queensland designer Simone Romaniuk.
In this interpretation of Mozart’s celebrated work, Tamino’s quest for love, truth and beauty takes place under the big top of a 1930s circus where scheming divas, an innocent clown, a ringmaster and a strongman come together to tell a tale of the magical and supernatural.
The Magic Flute is one of Mozart’s most enduring works and boasts some of the composer’s greatest music including Pamina’s Ah, I feel it, it is gone (Ach, ich fühl’s, es ist verschwunden) and the Queen of Night’s Oh, tremble not, my beloved son (O zittre nicht, mein lieber Sohn).
A wonderful cast has been assembled to present this world première production to Queensland audiences. Rockhampton-born tenor Christopher Saunders will sing the role of Tamino, Brisbane’s Sarah Crane and Jason Barry-Smith will sing the roles of Pamina and Papageno, respectively, while Russian-born baritone Gennadi Dubinsky and rising soprano Judit Lorincz will make their Opera Queensland debuts in the roles of Sarastro and the Queen of Night, respectively.
