I have just seen Women of Troy and I say Thank You STC for delivering such a strong piece of theatre. It was the best theatre experience that I've had for many years. I laughed, I cried and I left feeling totally in a strange way, invigorated by what I had seen. It provoked many thoughts, through the actors I felt the exposure and the despair that The Women of Troy must have gone through. What must the women of war torn Afghanistan and Iraq be experiencing? Tourement, torture, rape, hunger, death, despair - it was all there in the performance tonight.
My only pity and shame is for those that left, mid show. I can't not help but think that they have missed the many messages that are conveyed in this masterful piece. The singing sent chills down my spine. A wonderful experience that will stay with me forever.
