Even the most picky news paper - The Australian commented:
"THERE'S something enchanting in the gliding of skates over ice, and when the skaters make it all appear so effortless, as these Russians do -- every one of them a major competition winner -- the magic is all the more memorable. Then there's the excitement of speed, the sheer strength and technical expertise needed for high lifts, dizzying swings, dangerous throws, and spins so fast the skater becomes a whirling blur.
Artistic director Tony Mercer, an old hand at ice shows, has devised choreography that is often spectacular and, in the duets for the lovers, sublimely beautiful.
No old-style Cinderella, the heroine of this sophisticated ice show is a young dancer in the corps de ballet who is suddenly pushed into the leading role in Swan Lake, and catches the eye of the local mayor's son. It just happens that the ballet mistress is her nasty stepmother and her ugly stepsisters are in the company. A gypsy replaces the fairy godmother, and Cinders's father is a watchmaker, so time looms large in the story, with clocks going crazy, hands spinning out of control and a vigorously athletic 13th hour appearing as a terrible warning along with the usual 12. But it all ends happily. Of course. "
Not really a show for pre-school children, but our children (9 and 11),and us, with open minds to accept a 'modernised' story enjoyed so much!
