State and Territory Finalists were recently announced for the National Australia Day Council's Australian of the Year Award 2007. Alongside three other nominees, Bangarra's Artistic Director Stephen Page has been short listed for the New South Wales category of the award.
Stephen
Page is the first Indigenous dancer/choreographer to have achieved
international recognition. He studied dance at the National
Aboriginal and Islander Skills Development Association and after
graduating in 1983 began a professional career as a dancer with the
Sydney Dance Company.

The judges for the Pratt Prize 2006, in place of presenting the award this year, have decided to commission two of the six finalists to create new musicals.
Jeanne Pratt AC announced today that although the judges
recognised the talents of the composers and writers whose six musicals
were short-listed, no single musical had the potential to be an
outstanding success.
