FREE TIX - Don Giovanni
Monday, 30 July 2012 07:54
Don GiovanniLove. Betrayal. Passion. Revenge. Is opera's favourite bad boy about to meet his match?

He's stolen kisses and broken hearts. Our smouldering Don is about to seduce audiences. Be swept up in the stylishly sexy decadence of Oz Opera's exciting new production of Mozart's classic opera, Don Giovanni directed by Australian theatre great Michael Gow.

Don Giovanni is playing at Riverside Theatres on Friday, 10 August and Saturday 11 August 2012 for two performances only.

The Don spends his days in the company of gorgeous women, fine food and the best champagne, and he's ready to add more women to his catalogue of conquests but this time his dalliances are not going entirely to plan. But this time his dalliances are not going entirely to plan, and something sinister is waiting just around the corner. The abandoned Elvira is trying to track him down, Donna Anna wants to avenge the death of her father, which Giovanni may have had something to do with, and Zerlina just wants to get married without the Don's amorous interference...or does she?

"My vision for the opera came from Lyndon Terracini's brief... he wanted to streamline it... we wanted it to be really fast paced... passionate, violent and funny... We set it in the 50s in Italy and it kind of has a mafia feel to it. It's an exciting story and we are really looking forward to presenting Don Giovanni at Riverside Theatres," said Director Michael Gow.

A dramatist and director, Michael Gow was born in Sydney and began his theatre work with the Australian Theatre for Young People in 1970. He has directed shows for most major Australian companies including Sydney Theatre Company and Queensland Theatre Company. Gow is generally regarded as one of the leading playwrights to emerge in the 1980s. His plays have achieved success with both audiences and critics and Gow's play Away is one of the most frequently revived Australian plays. Gow was the artistic director of the Queensland Theatre Company from 1999 to 2010.
